BIBLE PASSAGE — “But about that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. For as the days of Noah were, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark, and they knew nothing until the flood came and swept them all away, so too will be the coming of the Son of Man. Then two will be in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. Two women will be grinding meal together; one will be taken and one will be left. Keep awake therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But understand this: if the owner of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour. — Advent 1, Series A

It would be a very good thing if there were some perspective on what apocalytic literature is actually about. End Time scenarios breed fear. Perhaps it would be better for people to understand that the Greek word “Strepho” (repent) actually means ‘to turn’. This is really about prodding people out of complacency in order to live with the Christ within, here and now, not because of fear of an end time, but because it will make the Christ present and the kingdom mannifest in our times.
Apocalyptic literature and end time scenarios only breed fear amongst those who do not have a sure hope. Living each day to the fullest and being aware that each day could very well be your last will always help you choose which clothes to wear! (What’s the weather like anyway?) As long and you know and believe that there is only one way to heaven, it doesn’t really matter if today is the day to put on the “judging the living and the dead clothes” or not.
I think I’ll take one of Uncle Wally’s free tickets just the same…
This is a Good One! It’s very simple really. We don’t need to worry about when the world is ending. We only need to remember all the Lord has done for us and remain steadfast in our belief that when our time has come we will be in His House.
This passage is to me a good one that separates Jesus as both God and man. According to his human property, he does not know when things will end. As God he surely knows to the second.

Agreed.
But nothing makes me treasure today like being aware that I might be dead tomorrow.

We worry not about what we shall wear. We put on Christ. I suspect Jesus has his whole wardrobe thing figured out as well.

what if one cannot find the “living and the dead” clothes to wear – would it be “judging in the buff” at breakfast?
