2007-06-20 — Yes, I AM forcing a minor festival on you! For those of you not observing the Nativity of John the Baptist on June 24, all I can say is “What would your mother say?” And then, you can find something for Luke 8:26-39 in the archives. We just put it there.
BIBLE PASSAGE — Now the time came for Elizabeth to give birth, and she bore a son. Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy to her, and they rejoiced with her. On the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to name him Zechariah after his father. But his mother said, “No; he is to be called John.” They said to her, “None of your relatives has this name.” Then they began motioning to his father to find out what name he wanted to give him. He asked for a writing tablet and wrote, “His name is John.” And all of them were amazed. Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue freed, and he began to speak, praising God. Fear came over all their neighbors, and all these things were talked about throughout the entire hill country of Judea. All who heard them pondered them and said, “What then will this child become?” For, indeed, the hand of the Lord was with him.

Type in a subject or a bible reference, like John 7:1-4 or simply Matthew 3.
Perfect. We are observing the Nativity of St. John the Baptist this Sunday because our local lodge of the Free and Accepted Masons (who try to worship together at a local church each year on “St. John’s Day” or the closest Sunday) are going to be joining us. This cartoon will go into our bulletin.
Out of the mouth of babes…
Your stuff is brilliant – is there a regular post that I can subscribe too, please?

The people of Saint John the Baptist Old Cathedral, Kalgoorlie Western Australia, thank you for leavening our Patronal Festival pew sheet. We do not consider the Birth of John the Baptist to be a MINOR festival!
